‘Exetreme’ Imagination

With appearances from David Almond, author of The Boy Who Climbed into the Moon, Petr Horáček, author & illustrator of A New House for Mouse, multi award winning author Meg Rosoff, and perennial children’s favourite Michael Morpurgo, author of War Horse and Kensuke’s Kingdom; ‘Exetreme Imagination’, Exeter’s Writing and Stories festival, promises to be a delightful event for the entire family. The festival is a joyous unification of Exeter’s arts and culture organisations, who have all rallied together to create an inspiring programme of events aimed for young people, aged 2 to 25.

Rockpool Ramble at Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust’s Seashore Centre

Join the marine ranger at the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust’s Seashore Centre and explore the fascinating marine life that lives in Torbay’s rock pools. Discover crabs, starfish, anemones, prawns and all sorts of other salty sea critters in the rock pools at Middlestone. A brilliantly briny bonanza for the whole family.

Annual Fireworks Finale at Crealy Adventure Park

Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th October

The ever popular Crealy Adventure Park is bring back its stunning annual fireworks finale for the ast two nights of half-term this October. Kids big and small will be enthralled as the skies above Devon light up with beautiful array of fireworks. The event will take place from 6pm on on both nights and there will be plenty of snacks and hot drinks available to keep hands and tummies warm. Families will also have the exciting opportunity to enjoy a selection of Crealy’s rides and attractions after dark as the park will remain open until 8pm!

Canonteign Falls

Canonteign Falls is home to England’s highest manmade waterfall, as well as an ancient natural waterfall. The manmade ‘Lady Exmouth Falls’ are named after the 3rd Lady Exmouth were built under the eponymous Lady’s direction in 1890, and the natural falls have existed on this site since ancient times.

Canonteign Falls is a breath-taking example of a Victorian folly, with the waterfalls themselves descending over 70m. It truly is one of the most stunning sights in Devon and makes the perfect day out for all the family. Especially with the introduction of the new ‘Under 5s Spotter Guide’ which allows little ones to make their own exciting trail through the falls while spotting lots of fascinating bits and bobs.

October is the perfect time to visit the falls, as all of the leaves will be turning; transforming Canonteign into a striking autumnal paradise.

Exeter’s Underground Passages

For a truly unique half-term experience, it’s time to go underground! Now open for exploration by visitors young and old, Exeter’s underground passages were built to house the pipes that brought clean drinking water into medieval Exeter. A tour of the passages will make for a truly unforgettable half-term treat with narrow, dark, passages providing a thrilling adventure for kids of all ages. You can also pop into the heritage centre before you begin your tour to learn a little more about the labyrinth below. These are the only passages of this kind open to the public in Britain, so don’t miss out!

South West Coast Path

The Dawlish and Dawlish Warren Walk is an easy walk on level roads and paths, starting at Dawlish Warren Train Station (just a 7 minute stroll from Langstone Cliff) and moving through some stunning Devonshire coastline, with views to some fascinating buildings and other delightful scenes. Part of the route travels along the sea wall, which is great for kids to walk along; but if the weather is bad or the tide high, the inland route on the other side of the railway line provides safer passage.
