The Langstone Cliff Hotel is set in a small valley comprising 19 acres of wooded grounds with an approximately 300 metre long drive. This enables the first floor of the Washington suite hotel to be accessible from the upper car park without steps. There is a footpath from the hotel down towards the beach, this path is now completely tarmacked and is accessible by wheelchairs and pushchairs.
There is a footbridge over the railway line on to the sea wall approximately 200 metres from the hotel. There is a road tunnel under the railway line giving level access to the beach and sea wall a further 200 metres from the Hotel. In 2020 a more gently sloping access path was created on to the back of the sea wall, this has a gravelled surface retained by rubber matting.
Our nearest railway stations are Dawlish and Dawlish Warren. Both Dawlish Warren and Dawlish Stations are located on the main Penzance to Paddington line. Dawlish Station has the more regular service. Dawlish Warren railway station is nearer to the Langstone Cliff Hotel. Dawlish Warren station has wheelchair and buggy access to both platforms but is normally unmanned. Dawlish station has Level access to the Exeter (northbound) platform. The southbound (Newton Abbot, Torquay, and Plymouth) platform can be accessed by lift.

Dawlish Warren station has wheeled access to both platforms via a short road tunnel. The southbound platform at Dawlish railway station is currently not as accessible as the southbound platform at Dawlish Warren station.
Dawlish Warren railway station is normally unmanned whereas Dawlish is normally manned during the daytime.
Dawlish railway station is approximately 1.5 miles from the hotel. There is a taxi rank outside Dawlish railway station and taxis are normally waiting. There is also a taxi rank at Dawlish Warren station but there are not often taxis waiting.
The no. 22 service bus stops immediately outside the hotel gate at the top of the hotel driveway and links us to Dawlish, Teignmouth, Newton Abbot, Torquay, Paignton and beyond. The no. 2 service bus links us to Exeter and beyond via Cockwood, Starcross, Powderham, Kenton and Exminster.
The hotel driveway slopes gently down towards the hotel until it reaches the end of the Washington suite then the gradient increases quite substantially as it drops from first floor level down around 4.5 metres in approximately 30 linear metres.
There is parking for around 50 cars (some level spaces are available) at the upper level of the car park adjacent to the Washington Suite and space for around 70 cars on the slope in front of the Hotel.
There are a couple of level drop off spaces immediately adjacent to the Hotel Main entrance.
There are additional level spaces in the upper car park adjacent to the Washington suite. There are approximately 40 and 70 additional spaces in 2 further overflow areas.
There is additional overflow parking on grass for approximately 700 cars in the hotels field adjacent to the Golf Practice area.
There are 5 designated disabled badge holder spaces 3 on an incline close to the main entrance and 2 located on the level near the exterior door to the first floor entrance.
Coach and LGV access is possible to the main entrance of the Hotel and also to the rear of the Hotel if required.
The two pairs of Main hotel entrance doors to the hotel are now power operated and are 1300 mm wide. There is a Bell to summon assistance if required.
There is wheeled access (basically level but with the occasional ramp) to the whole of the ground floor of the hotel.
There are 4 steps between the Lincoln Restaurant and the Lincoln Bar, but there is a ramp around the steps via the Lounges and there is also level access to the Lincoln Suite from the Washington entrance.
There is an accessible toilet located in the Washington Foyer.
There is an internal corridor across the front of the building linking the Washington foyer to the Hotel’s main hall. This has 4 steps, which may be bypassed via a short walk across the hotel’s car park or by passing through the Lincoln Restaurant.

There are NO fully adapted accessible bedrooms in the hotel.
There are 10 ground floor rooms, all of which have walk-in showers and 3 of these also have baths. Room 3 has the most turning space in the bathroom and bedroom and should be navigable for most wheelchairs.
Rooms 3, 56 & 57 now have “wet room” bathrooms i.e. no steps into the shower cubicles.
We now have 7 first floor bedrooms (4, 27, 30, 31, 39, 73, 74) with walk-in showers but no baths, some of these have some steps involved in accessing them.
There are grab rails in all baths and showers.

The hotel has a manual Wheelchair available if required.
We do have a range of aids available including raised toilet seats, frames, and bed guards. Many other aids can be obtained on request.
We also have a set of portable ramps which can speed ingress and egress to various parts of the hotel. These can also provide wheelchair access to the stages in the Washington and Lincoln Ballrooms.
We have an alarm for the hard of hearing which will vibrate your pillow on detecting the fire alarm (available on request).

There is a passenger lift located in the Washington foyer serving both the ground and first floors. Its dimensions are 770 mm by 1070 mm and the door opening is 800 mm.
Most but not all of the first floor bedrooms can be accessed without steps from either the lift or via external doors. There are 6 bedrooms with steps inside the bedrooms either to or from the bathroom or one of the bedrooms.
The Hotels’s Victorian Verandah is on the East face of the hotel and has a single step into the lounges or it is possible to avoid steps by entering via the main entrance or from the poolside foyer. The hotel lawns can be accessed from the verandah by 4 short staircases. It is possible to access the lawns by passing the steps and proceeding along the path in front of the verandah onto the side of the Lawn. The main lawns are divided into 2 level sections divided by a low bank. There is a further area of lawn which falls away gently towards the sea on the far side of the outdoor swimming pool.
The outdoor swimming pool is open from Late May to early September. It is below ground (the coping stones are at ground level) and fenced. There is a paddling pool and a swimming pool. There is a Roman end at one end of the swimming pool and a ladder at the other end. There is a grab rail located in the centre of the Roman end. The outdoor pool is approximately 1200 mm deep and is heated during the season to approx 75 Fahrenheit. The outdoor swimming pool is not normally attended but it is covered by CCTV and emergency alarms
There are no steps into the Tennis court. There is a tarmaced footpath\road all the way around the hotel though it is a little steep in places. There are some woodland paths maintained through the hotel grounds but these may be a little uneven for some wheelchairs and pushchairs but they are passable on foot.
The hotel’s leisure complex may be accessed through the hotel lounges on the level and includes a Fitness Room, Hairdressing Salon and the Indoor Swimming Pool. There are Changing facilities and showers within the pool complex.
The Indoor pool is below ground (that is the coping stones are at ground level) and there is a small ramp to access the pool surround. There is a small paddling pool approx 300 mm deep and the main pool is approx 1 metre deep at the shallow end dropping to 1.5 metres at the deep end. There are 2 sets of steps at the shallow end of the pool and ladder at the deep end of the pool. The Indoor Pool is maintained at a temperature of approximately 90 degrees Fahrenheit. There are coded locks on the indoor pool fitness room doors located at a low level to prevent access by unaccompanied children. The codes are changed regularly and are available from reception on request. The indoor swimming pool is not normally attended but is covered by CCTV and emergency alarms.
The hairdressing salon is open 6 days a week. There is a leaflet with opening times and price list available to download here or we would be pleased to send you a copy.
The snooker room is located just behind Reception. There is ramped access from the poolside room or 4 steps either side of Reception.
Table Tennis is normally available in the Garden Room which is located just inside the hotel main entrance. There is also an external Table Tennis table on the patio adjacent to the outdoor swimming pool.
The principal entrance to the Washington Suite has an opening of 1100 mm and the doors are powered.
The Washington Suite has level access throughout and has level access to the Lincoln Ballroom.
There is a lift located in the Washington Foyer to the First floor of the Hotel.
The hotel is manned 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Reception is normally manned from 07.00 am until 11.00 pm every day. With the night porters on duty from 11.00 pm until 07.00 am. The restaurant is normally manned from 07.00 am. The bars are manned from 09.00 am till Late!
