Visit One Of The Best Farms In South Devon

Forget fun days out for kids, Pennywell Farm is a day out for every generation. Situated in the lush Devon countryside, Pennywell Farm is an award-winning, working organic farm where everyone can help handle and feed the animals that live there. If you have an interest in farming, animal rearing or are curious about livestock you can ask any and all questions you want to know the answers to – the staff are very knowledgeable! It’s this hands-on approach that has helped Pennywell gain its reputation as Devon’s friendliest day out.

Where is it?

Only 3 Minutes off the A38, 1 mile south of Buckfastleigh. If you get stuck, you can follow the brown tourist signs! The farm is just 20 miles from Plymouth and Exeter, 12 Miles from Torbay and 40 minutes away from Langstone Cliff.

When can you go?

Pennywell Farm is open from 10 am to 5 pm, 7 days a week between 11th February and 29th October.

What can you do?

You’re in for a full day of hands-on animal activities including rides, shows and displays. Think the likes of egg collecting, goat milking, bottle feeding lambs and goat kids, pond dipping, ferret racing, pic racing, give the pets their tea and plant a seed to take home and watch it grow. Phew, we’re exhausted just listing it all!

Who can you meet and handle?

If you thought the list of activities was long, just wait for the list of animals! The Pennywell Miniature Pigs are internationally famous and rightly so, it’s best to check in advance to see if there is a litter around for a cuddle. That’s not all – you can have a chat with the grand Shire horse Fusilier, count the almost endless international poultry collection, ride the gentle ponies and donkeys, relax in the cosy pet area with rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, chicks and ducklings. Not forgetting retired tortoises, little ewes and lambs, goats and their kids, alpacas, deer, cows, ducks, geese, ferrets and hedgehogs.

If you look forward to your family breaks in Devon, why not have the best of both words? Stay in one of the best South Devon hotels by the sea and then journey further into land for a day at Pennywell Farm.
